Praying Through Scripture:
Read this Psalm once, and then pray/journal...
Psalm 46
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Reflect, and pray about where God has given you peace in the last year? Perhaps start by listing where you’ve needed refuge this year.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.
Write down a time in the last year where God’s presence was made known to you. Maybe a relationship that’s been mended, maybe a prayer that has been answered, or maybe just a time in the last year, where you felt his presence.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.
Write a list of where you want to see God move in your life in the next year. Dream big, and pray bigger.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Take inventory of where you are with God right now. Does he feel close or far? Are you passionate about him, or passive?
11 The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Invite God into your life. Maybe He’s already in your heart, but invite him into your classes, your job, your family, your relationships. God is always with us so invite His Spirit to participate in your life this week.
We encourage you to pray every day this week. Use this guide 10 minute prayer guide to help get your started:
- Begin with 1 minute of silence, to acknowledge and be more aware that God is with you.
- Read a Psalm from the Bible
- Spend 2-3 minutes telling God what you are thankful for
- Spend 1-2 Minutes telling God what has been difficult
- Spend 2-3 minutes asking God for help and wisdom
- End with the Lords Prayer:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
