Our Heavenly Father loves vulnerable children. (Psalm 68:6) Jesus calls us to embody his love for those who are hurting. (James 1:27) We have a variety of ways for you to support vulnerable children and their families.
Foster Parents' Night Out
Foster Parents’ Night Out (FPNO) provides respite care to foster parents on the second Saturday evening of each month during the school year, from October - May (with May's event this year on May 5 instead of 12 because of Mother's Day). FPNO provides a fun-filled three hours of activities, crafts, dinner, and loving care to children who range in age from two weeks old to seventeen years old. Volunteers serve by helping with a specific age group of children, acting as security team members, or working in the kitchen to feed everyone. At the end of the evening, foster parents return rested and refreshed and the kids have experienced positive interactions with volunteers who simply want to nurture them.
If you have a heart for children who are part of the foster care system this is an excellent way to develop relationships with foster kids and serve foster parents, giving them a much-needed break. FPNO volunteers must attend a three-hour training and pass a criminal background check and committed to serving at FPNO on a regular basis.
Every Child PDX Partnership
Our church partners with Every Child in support of our local Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) through the recruitment of new resource (foster) families, and the support needed for their retention, as well as through ODHS staff appreciation opportunities. If you are interested in knowing more about becoming a resource (foster) family, please contact our AFC lead Kristina Thom. If you are interested in opportunities to express gratitude to the individuals who’ve committed their lives to caring for children and families in crisis in our community please fill out this form.
With Love
With Love is a local not-for-profit organization serving young foster families within the Portland-metropolitan area. They provide high-quality resources at no cost. Their mission is to “support foster families by providing safe, clean, and quality clothing and supplies for children ages 0-5, while exuding love and honor.”
In partnership with With Love, our church seeks to help meet specific organizational needs through directing willing volunteers to their website where they can sign up to serve in their Tigard warehouse as well as better understand how their gifts and talents can be put to use in supporting and growing this thriving non-profit.
