WHAT IS ROOTED?

Change the way you think about community.

Rooted is a pathway to meaningful community and a way to engage and strengthen rhythms of faith.

Designed to be more than “just another curriculum,” Rooted challenges you to put to action the things you learn within community.

In addition to the daily rhythm of individual reading and reflection, you will experience prayer, service, and celebration as a group. Rooted is for everyone, regardless of background and experience. Join Rooted for a life-changing experience.

Each week the Rooted material asks thought-provoking questions, guides our groups in conversations, and pushes us to go deeper as we strive to see God as he really is. The beauty is, you aren’t alone in that journey.

At its core, Rooted helps us understand rhythms of following Jesus. Whether you have been following Jesus for decades, or question whether he is even real, Rooted is a safe place to learn.

For anyone, wherever you’re at.

We believe Rooted is for every living, breathing, human on this earth. Rooted is for the weary, strong, lonely, connected, seeking, found, hurting, and purposed. Rooted is for the seeker, spectator, follower, and friend of Jesus.

Whether you know Jesus and have followed him for decades, or you just accidentally found yourself reading this, Rooted is for you!

Expect the unexpected.

Weekly Gatherings — Groups meet once a week either in person or online to dialogue over insights and questions prompted by the material.

Daily Reading and Reflection — Each week guides you through five days of reading and reflection. As with everything, you get out what you put in. There truly is no “wrong” way to do this, just jump in and see what happens. Come each day expecting to learn more about yourself and God.

Prayer, Serve, and Celebration Experiences — Three times during the session the group will take extra time to pray, serve, and celebrate together, all rich and rewarding experiences.

THERE’S SPACE FOR YOU.

Rooted groups run three times a year: fall, winter, and spring.

What is Rooted?
Rooted is part of a “discipleship pathway” here at BCC to help you grow in your relationship with Jesus. The term “disciple” is a term we use to describe a follower of Jesus. You can think of it this way: we are His students and He is constantly teaching us. In fact, as a student of Jesus, school is in session 24 hours a day, seven days a week! We think that Rooted gives you a solid introduction to what it means to follow Jesus: what we believe about God; His heart for us; our relationships; and each person’s unique role in the world as a follower of Jesus.

Discipleship and finding community are central to what we do here at BCC! You can learn more here and here.

When is Rooted?

The Winter session meets every Sunday from January 22 - March 19 (3pm to 5pm).

How long is Rooted?

9 weeks plus we meet for a special Celebration Dinner. (Date will be announced)

Rooted FAQ:

How do I register and what does it cost?

Registration is easy! Just click the “Register” button and follow the steps. The cost is $50/person to go through the course which includes all sessions, your workbook and other materials, and our Celebration Dinner at the end.

Is childcare available?

Childcare is available for children aged 3 months-5th grade with registration, and is $35 a child for the session. This cost includes a healthy snack. If your child has dietary restrictions, we ask you to pack a snack for him/her individually. Of course, please leave the peanuts/peanut butter at home.

How will I know what group I'm in?

If you've requested to be placed with a particular leader or a person, we do our very best to honor that request. If we make a change from your request you'll hear from us before the session begins. Otherwise you'll know your group at check in that first night.

Where will we meet?

We are one church with three locations - so there are a couple of times in Rooted that we will be going to our other campus'! This will happen on Week 1 (1/22) at Hope City and Week 8 (3/5) at Willamette Christian Church. So our first night of Rooted we will be joining together with everyone over at our Hope City Campus! Once you arrive you'll see clear signage for check in. You'll get all you need right there! The following weeks we will meet at our Beaverton campus. (Hope City address is 5197 SE King Road. Milwaukie, OR 97222).

What if I can't make it for all of the weeks?

We realize that Rooted is a large time commitment, but we believe it is worth it. Due to this belief, if you know you are going to miss more than 2 of the meetings, we ask that you wait to register for Rooted. The session is a cumulative experience and so we ask that every participant commit to honor each other with being at every meeting.

Will food be provided during the weekly gatherings?

Though you are more than welcome to bring your own food, or even potluck with your Rooted Group, the Rooted team will not be providing food for your gatherings. This is with the exception of Launch night (refreshments and snacks) and the Celebration (full dinner)

Home Communities

Everyone needs a group to grow.

We LOVE gathering on Sunday mornings, whether it's online or in-person, but the church is so much more than a once-a-week large gathering - particularly now when our ability to meet is so limited. The church is people helping people to know, love, and follow Jesus. Our goal is to gather and grow together.

Home Communities are a space to:

  • Meet in a small group
  • In a safe environment, either virtually or in a trusted home (or both)
  • With real people looking to grow in their faith

Each gathering offers you the opportunity to engage in meaningful, honest discussion, the sharing of scripture, and prayer.

The best way to find a Home Community is to go through Rooted, where you will develop rhythms of growth alongside those in your Rooted group— Home Communities are even often formed out of groups who go through Rooted together. Home Communities gather three seasons a year for a set number of weeks each season.
