Playgroup is coming!

Earlier this week I made a quick trip to Costco, just in and out to get one essential item before running to pick up my oldest from school. As I was heading down the sidewalk towards the store I noticed a man waiting, leaning on the handle of a cart. He immediately caught my eye. This man was dressed in sandals, khaki shorts, and a short-sleeved cotton shirt that was covered in a large floral print from collar to hem. He looked like he had just time-traveled to this moment from mid-July. It was then that he noticed me and did a full, cartoon-like double-take at what he saw. He took in my tall red rain boots, black pants, and thick, black sweatshirt. We smiled at each other and then immediately began to laugh. “You and I are living in two very different seasons,” I said as I passed him. He laughed and nodded, “Yes, yes we are.”

In the man’s defense, he was the one, of the two of us, dressed more appropriately for that particular day’s weather. It was sunny and only a little cool. In my defense, I had just come from chaperoning my preschooler’s field trip to the pumpkin patch. My boots functioned less as rain boots and more as mud boots that day.

That’s part of the fun of October! The weather is all over the place. Some days, the weather reminds you that summer isn’t that far in the rearview mirror. Other days, the chill and rain warn that winter is indeed on its way. We are transitioning from the outdoor glory days of summer to the cozy, indoor activities of autumn in Oregon.

That is why I am happy to share that our BCC Playgroup is starting up again on Tuesday, October 17th, for those days when you’d rather bring your little one to play in a warm, dry environment, than a cold, wet park.

This year Playgroup will look a little different; we are opening up playgroup to all parents, grandparents, or caregivers to bring their 0-5 year olds, not just the moms. Another change is that this year we will be meeting up weekly! Every Tuesday from 9-10am we will be opening up space in BCC Kids to play and connect.

We can’t wait to see you rain or shine, boots or sandals!
